Just bought a 8N and I cant figure out the serial # Instead of having the normal flat area for # it has 2 the first one (in normal spot & normal size)has the # AY9694 on it. The second about 1/2 inch behind much smaller (postage stamp) with small #s is the # 2 48 yes there is a space betwee the 2&4 Anyone have any ideas Thanks Rick

Rick..... ...unless you can definately prove that yer "A" "Y" are really seperate A & Y, a sloppy "4" could be interperted as a "A"; and an even sloppier "4" could be interperted as a "Y". And considering that the 1948 starting s/n is 37908; and you're reporting a "2 48", s/n 49694 would be consistant with a Feburary production.

Other than for "braggin' rights", there are NO s/n critical 8N parts that arn't intuitively obvious, like the change from 4-nipple frontmount distributor to the 5-nipple sidemound distributor at s/n 263843. See?..... ....Dell
