Question on 8N Sidemount Dist. Camshaft

I recently bought a 9N that has had the engine replaced with an 8N engine with a magneto mounted where the distributor would be. I also got the old 9N engine (SN 9201) in the deal. I would not pay the price he wanted for the tractor and engine so as we negotiated I told him I did not want the magneto. It ended up he sold me the tractor and engine for what I was willing to pay and he kept the magneto and the front cover.

I intend to turn this tractor over and sell it right away as soon as I can get it running good. My initial idea was to put the front mount distributor, cam gear, and front cover from the old engine on it.

The problem I have is the gear that drives the distributor looks like it is part of the camshaft. I have looked at the Parts Catalog and it shows the gear as a seperate part but I sure cannot get it to come off the camshaft. I took the bolts out of the cam gear and it looks like it will come off OK but no go on the disributor gear. Anyone know if the gear was ever cast as part of the camshaft?

I sure don't want to have to replace the camshaft to convert it to front mount. If the distributor gear is part of the camshaft I will probably get a sidemount front cover and distributor instead.

I appreciate it if anyone knows the answers here.

Thanks.

Paul K.
