I've read several posts in the past about insects getting in the gas lines and stopping a tractor cold. In my mind, I'm reading and thinking BS, BS, BS. Can't happen..insects in the gas line..come on..give me a break. But now, I'm a believer. My neighbor (Allis and Case Backhoe owner) had problem with both machines. Hard starting and had no power...starving for fuel (Case is diesel). So he pulled the strainer/valve out of the diesel fuel tank and and deep inside, he pulled out a moth. Problem solved for backhoe. Tractor still a problem. So he sez, "Why not do same with tractor"..He pulled strainer/valve out of tractor tank and "voila"...a wasp. This happened after checking fuel flow in both vehicles and determining that there was no obstructions in either. Both purring right along now and "I'm a believer"....Ron

While adding gas to my riding lawnmower.. which always has a cap on it. I noticed a dead bug curle dup on the bottom o fthe tank. Can't figure out how that poor sucker got in there... it uses a vented cap that has a baffle.. nothing bigger than an ant should be able to get in.. but this thing's the size of a dime easy... go figure..

This stuff comes from fuel cans left sitting around open.A neighbor leaves his gas can with nozzle and vent open. When it rains he gets water in his gas, blames the the gas co.

All my cans still have the vent caps and nozzle covers intact.. Though.. I guess it only takes a second for an insect to run into a nozzle setting on the ground while you fill up.. etc.

Knowing what I now know, If I were having trouble starting or keeping the engine running, I would pull the fuel valve off and make sure that it has no obstructions before doing anything else. Even if it meant draining a tank full of gas. As strange as it seems, just checking at the bottom of the carb is not enough because that obstruction creates a vacuum lock that is not easily recognized. JMHO...Ron
