repost--need help with clutch (long post)

I'm a newbie with a 9N I was using to bush hog the 'back 40' on my new home. Unfortunately, in the high weeds was a short stump, which miraculously did not hit my wheels. It did catch the leading edge of my bush hog guarding, which brought me to a full stop--actually, lifted the still-spinning left rear wheel clear of the ground.

My problem is that since this happened, the clutch pedal hangs lower than it did and I now cannot put the clutch in. I've readjusted the clutch linkage as far as it will allow, but still cannot apply the clutch. If I remove the plate under the clutch linkage, I can stand on it far enough to allow me to put the clutch in, but I don't think this is the right long term solution.

I'm now guessing that something's out of whack on the brake linkage the the clutch linkage rides on, but I don't know. Would love some expert advice. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like something doesn"t happen to many people. The clutch pedal slips over the brake actuating shaft there at the rear axle housing and it is not pinned, keyed, or bolted; it floats. When you step on the clutch pedal it goes so far and engages the brake pawl arm that is bolted through the actuating shaft and the brake is actuated. Seems you depress the clutch pedal, it goes down until the brake is fully actuated and then stops the clutch pedal travel. Once that brake is fully engaged, that clutch pedal is not going to be depressed any farther. You could back off the brake so you had more pedal travel so you could disengage the clutch and move the tractor to the shop but that"s not the cure.
First, is the brake pawl engaged and letting the clutch pedal drop some? Step on the brake pedal to disengage the pawl, you might have to kick the pedal. It might be some that and you have the adjustments all out of wack.
The clutch adjustment is simple. Adjust the clevis at the brake pawl arm for 3/16" free travel under the pedal stop sticking out of the round plate on the tranny. Then you need 1-9/16" travel until the pedal contacts the brake pawl arm. After that 1-3/4" movement the brake shaft has to rotate. If you can"t make the brake shaft rotate when you step on the clutch pedal then you have a problem in that brake. That could possibly be if you bounced that wheel hard or some such. Not likely but your problem isn"t very likely either.
Check the brake pawl, eyeball it and make sure it isn"t hung some crazy way. When it gets jamed in there sometimes you have to stomp the brake pedal to get it to come loose.
