Has anyone else noticed that the site takes about 45 seconds to start loading?

I have not seen any problem with this site. In fact, given the complexity and traffic, I suspect that they have a pretty decent server and pipe to the Internet. I would look at other things that may be causing your problem. I have a broadband connection (satellite) and a home network of 8 computers. There are times when I have not cleared the cache on a machine for a while, it will seem to load pages very slowly. Another system using the same pipe to the satellite will blaze along just fine. Could also be some of the links that load at the same time as the site are the cause of the slowdown too.

This bullboard is slow here, too, and my confuser is % Microsoft free and AOL free. The problem seems to be tied to this site (rather than my ISP) since other sites I frequent are operating normally.

Here is a place to get a great little tool that WILL help your computer performance. .www.analogx.com. .software. .system...get the MaxMem program. . what it does is force programs to let go of your RAM memory after they are done using it. Some programs (mainly Microsoft Word & Excel) hold onto memory long after they are done using it.

I install this program on every computer I work on. It is especially helpful on older, slower process & lower memory machines. . .I run 128Meg RAM on my computers, and it make a world of difference, even for a 90Mhz I just rebuilt for my wifes grandfather.

And personally, I like AOL. .has some nice features. And I am a techie kid. ..but I also have a normal ISP as well.. .

8N 101225, I also have notice this site taking about 45 to 50 seconds to load. I first noticed this about a month ago. My thoughts were it is my computer, but I have tried other sites and there is no problem. I have ask several computer buffs and they tell me it is the site getting so many hits that it takes this long to load. So it must be that a lot of N's are looking at this site.
Skeeter man...

Yeah about a month ago was when I noticed it too.

I notified Kim last week and she's working on it. Seems to be the URLs with ytmag or yesterdaystractors but not antiquetractors.

By the way, I'm in Ontario Canada which is a long way from Kansas. So I doubt that it's an ISP problem.

And no I don't use AOL. And it's slow with IE 5.5, Netscape 4.76 and Opera 5.02. Caches and temp files are always removed when the browser(s) close.

site speed is often dependant on the last link in the chain, namely your computer or ISP. I hate to ask but are you an AOL user?

Rule of thumb when using AOL, always refresh the web page you are viewing as soon as you start to load it. I finally got our book keeper at work to give up AOL and she has never been happier.

You might also try clearing your cashe and temp. internet files and cookies. This will also speed up your puter.

No change in my experience. Still loads right up. If you haven't rebooted lately, you might want to do so to clean up your memory. If it's just this site that's slow, could be some router glitch through your ISP.
