You guys helped me fix the distributor, so the engine now starts A-OK. Still can"t use this old tractor yet. When I step on the clutch pedal, it feels like there is very little spring pressure. I can shift into all the gears when the engine is not running, but they grind if it is running. I"ve been reading about how to fix a stuck clutch. I"ve had a block of wood holding the pedal down for a couple of months, have put it in gear as soon as it starts and drive around several times, standing on the clutch pedal & bouncing it up and down. I"ve used the front end loader bucket to dig up the driveway until it stalled the tractor out a few times (not comfortable with running into a tree). When I take the starter off & look in the hole, I don"t see anything that I should try to pry loose. Do any of you have a photo of what the pressue plate should look like, looking through the starter hole? Is that the best thing, short of splitting the tractor apart at this point? It will be a real bear trying to take off the front end loader framework and split it. Is the lack of spring pressure typical of a stuck clutch? Thanks guys. Great forum.
