OT - glue for styrofoam?

Hey - you all seem to know EVERYTHING, so here's one for you.

I'm repairing a styrofoam panel for a hot tub cover, and trying to do it on the cheap. I'll be laying two aluminum channels into the bottom, but need a good, strong glue to stick the two pieces back together and to glue the channels in.

The glues I have around all seem to melt styrofoam. Any suggestions from the sages?

Thank you!

Thank you all again for the input. We are trying the Gorilla Glue for the first run at it. If that doesn't hold up, I'm thinking that the Liquid Nails is stiff enough to do the job.

This probably isn't going to work. In the end, it will be new foam, because a new cover is out of the question. (It was a gift tub, and I am NOT spending $400+ for another cover.) Two pieces of the blue foam glued together will do fine as a replacement panel if it comes to that.

Boy... gotta love these old tractors, huh? Nothing like a hot tub to melt the grease and oil off of you after working on 'em.

Now it is all on topic!

I would use the "blue insulation foam" instead of "white" styrofoam if possible. It is structurally more rigid. I friend buildt a kit car and lamimated layers of "blue foam" to custom design his fenders than fiberglassed over the foam. He said that is what they used at a custom boat shop he used to work at. Just a thought.

Pete, I use the clear silicone and a clalking gun to glue styrofoam to most anything. Won't melt it and next to impossible to remove styrofoam after silicone as setup if you make a mistake. also not effected by moisture..HTH..Keith

Use a white carpenter's glue, like "Elmer's"

This to that... what a great site! Yep - Weldbond looks like the ticket.

I had considered Elmer's white, but this is a hot tub cover and will be eternally damp. I don't think Elmer's will hold up.

Thank you!
