Tyler, I read your post below about your troubles restarting when hot. I just want to offer a thought about the replies. ihmike said the following. "You are going to have to spend some money. Either convert to 12volts and/or overhaul engine, tune it up, and replace a lot of parts. This is one of the main reasons to convert to 12volts. Do it and you won"t regret it."
I'm not sure what the reason is that he figured out to convert, rebuild, or replace, but please consider this. We have a 9N and an 8N, they both work daily in the summer and in the winter they may sit for 3 weeks or they may work daily, depending on the snowfall. These aren't trailer queens, driveway diva's or even lawn mowers. They plow, plant, spray, cultivate, mow, harvest, and spead manure as well as plow snow and an occasional hay ride. The important thing is, they are both still 6 Volt front mount original wiring fords that work every stinkin day of the year. Now contrary to other advice, I'll give ya this. Get it runnin right on 6 volts like it was designed to do. Then and only then, if you want to convert to 12 volts, go ahead. Right wrong or otherwise it'll be alot easier. 12 Volt conversion is never a good patch for malfunctions. Do an archive search for 12 volt conversions, and spend some time reading. Most posts are addressing the question, "Oh shutt, what did I do wrong, and how do I correct it?!!"
Good luck, Ron

FWIW...one of the best things I did to my N was to fix up my electrics, especially the wire harness. It was so cracked, split up, frayed, in places that I really didn't see.

Hi Ron-
I agree. It sounds like he has a fried coil- "won't start after hot" I have a 1948 8N that I use like you do and I have no problems with it starting and staying running even in the coldest weather and it is all original. Clean, bright, and tight is the 6-volt mantra. I'm not totally against 12-volt conversions, I have no need for it.

Tim
