I just installed an ORC on my 8N. To make it fit I had to take out a metal washer/gasket/insert. On my other 8N I did not have to do anything. Does anyone know what that insert was for and if it should have been removed? It looks like some type of seal for the PTO.

Any chance one of your PTO shafts is 1 1/8" (original) and the other is 1 3/8" (more modern and preferable today) ?

The ORC does convert the PTO from 1-1/8 to 1-3/8, that is not what I am talking about. To get the ORC to go on far enough to get the spring pin in I had to take the insert out, it is a round washer type item that goes around the PTO shaft. It seems to be working and there is no leakage so I guess it was just there for looks??

I have two different ORC's, both of fairly different design, and neither use any insert thingie like you are describing. My impression is, if you got 6 ORC's from different places, they'd all be a bit different.
