Was using my 5 ft blade to level dirt. Noise coming from under seat sort of a knocking noise like something spinning. Doesn't do it all the time comes and goes and only when PTO engaged. Blade seems to lift and operate fine. Tractor used to hold blade up for days with engine shut off, now will leak down slowly even without blade. Run the 134 oil because I plow snow in temps of 5 degrees. Used to have heavy 90 wt I think. What is the noise and is it OK to use it? Thanks

I'm in Wisconsin and went to the 134 for the same reason. Mine knocks with a heavy load when it gets to the top. I have ignored it for years. Might bite me some day.

By the way, I've heard that mixing oils is not good to do. Interaction with additives or something like that.

Go back to the heavier oil you can expect it won"t make that noise or leak down like that. Have you ran the heavier oil in the winter? Slower lift but you maybe able to live with it.
Lotta of the worn pumps will knock with the 134 in there doesn"t mean it needs fixed anytime soon. It may work good long time with that knock.

Rob- When I first got the tractor had a heavy oil in it and tried to plow snow after a storm with temp below zero. It was so thick the tractor would stall when I let the clutch out in neutral. The 134 oil worked like a charm all winter and hydraulics worked great. I guess not so great for summer time. Could I drain 1/2 of the 134 oil out and replace with the 90 wt? Sort of a 50/50 mix? Thanks for your help.

The heavy Ford Hydraulic Fluid is straight mineral oil and might not be compatible with the 134, whatever it is. I just don"t know one way or the other.
Non-detergent motor oil is mineral oil and won"t foam and comes in 30 weight which is a lot lighter than the 80W90 Ford Hydraulic Fluid. A guy might brew up something using the lighter ND motor oil and the Ford Hydraulic Fluid. ISO turbine oil is an excellent lighter mineral oil made for hydraulics and gear boxes where it goes unchanged for 10yrs or more. ISO 32, 46, 68; I can"t remember what weights those are but TSC and COOP have that ISO oil.
Or, better yet, change fluid in the fall and spring ($50/yr that way). Myself, I use Ford Hydraulic Fluid and let the snow go until the temp gets up to 20*. I can generally get away with that here in Kansas.
