Hard is it to adjust the hydraulic controls

Frontmount 1949 8N. Draft lever is up.
My lift lever is getting to where it has less and less travel.
It will go all the way up and down.
But it only affects the lift in the top couple of inches.
Position control is good in that short space.
But shouldn't control be over the whole range of the control lever.

I'm thinking it needs adjustment.
How hard is it to adjust the control lever.
What if I get Zane's adjustment jig.
How hard is it to adjust the lift with the jig.

Thanks.

You might be able to get a little more lift out of it by loosening the four bolts that hold the quadrant to the lift housing and lightly tapping the whole quadrant forward on the elongated bolt holes in the quadrant mounting flange. This adjustment is actually designed to adjust the draft mode but it will also give you more travel on position mode but it will not be as good as if it were adjusted with my jig and instructions.

See the link below for information.

With the position control lever in the vertical position the lift arms should start to lower when the touch control lever reaches a point 2-5/8 to 2-3/4 inches down from the top position. If the lift arms start moving before or only after the spec then loosen the four quadrant attaching cap screws and move the quadrant toward the front or rear as required. My quadrant has witness marks cut into the top edge.
Remove the right side round inspection plate and disengage the position control (position control lever forward to the horizontal position). Reach in and feel the bottom end of the control rod at the valve rocker lever/intake valve while you push the touch control lever toward the top of the quadrant. If it is correct, the valve rocker lever will just come to touch the pump housing as the touch control lever reaches full up on the quadrant. That control rod should be straight.
When you going to get a manual?

I have a IT FO4 manual.

The little lever for draft/position control is in the position control mode position (vertical).

The lift operates normally.
It goes up and down all the way and holds any position.
But I can lift the touch lever 3/4 of the distance before the lift arms do anything. In the top couple of inches I have perfect position control.

Yeah. So what"s the problem? Ok, so a "couple" inches is a bit small. Measure like those instruction I pain-stakingly typed, not knowing you have a manual, say. See if you have a problem.

The arms are suppose to begin to drop 2-5/8 to 2-3/4 inches from the top of the quadrant, and they keep dropping all the way unless you pull it back up. All you got is a little bit at the top of the quadrant. So a "couple-few" inches is normal.

This feels familiar...have we been through this before? Was that the 2nd time I typed all that for you.

Nope, this is the first time I asked this question.
At least I think it was. When you got fluff for brains it is hard to remember sometimes.

Seems to me the lever position should match the lift position.
That would make sense to me.

If it were a newer tractor I'd say your cam follower pin is worn out. Probably is on your 8N also. If you go to all the trouble of pulling the lift cover you just as well plan on repairing the other parts of the lift at the same time. I've never done it on an 8N but the archives is full of info. Good luck.
