HELLO EVERYONE I HAVE BEEN HAVEING TROUBLE WITH A STARTER DRIVE I BOUGHT ABOUT A YEAR AGO, HAVE BEEN RESTORING MY 52 8N FOR THE LAST YEAR AND HALF SO WHEN I GOT TO THE STARTER I GOT A NEW DRIVE SO I COULD START AND RUN IT A LITTLE TILL I GOT THE SHEET METAL FINISHED,WELL THE THING WORKED ABOUT 6 OR 7 STARTS AND NOW WONT INGAGE TILL I TAKE IT BACK OFF AND UN STICK IT THEN IT WILL START ONE TIME AND THATS IT,IS THERE A TOP OF THE LINE DRIVE I CAN GET? BY THE WAY THE NEW DRIVE WAS MADE IN CHINA,PROB MY TRO. THANKS

Some guys will tell you that"s normal but you don"t have to believe it. Like Ozark Mike said, that drive needs to be dry. The starter might not be spinning fast enough. Pull the starter apart and check the shaft, bearings and brushes. Don"t wash the starter widing in solvent but the drive, bearings and shaft wants to be clean.
To get it back together you pull the brushes out and put the end of the spring on the side of the brush to hold it wedged until you get the brushes over the commutator. Then you reach in with a probe or skinny screwdriver and push the brush against the commutator. You may have to flip the end of the spring over onto the back of the brush.
But I imagine your local Case/New Holland dealer has a good drive for that starter. I hear they had problems but they changed back to the good ones; don"t really know. A good auto parts store should have a good drive.

check to see if there is any oil on that shaft... had a problem like that a few years ago...got to be drier than a popcorn phart..mike
