I have an early (front mounted distributor 12 volt) 8N Ford with a rear mounted 6' finish mower. Lately, when the tractor is operated for about 15 minutes I notice loss of oil pressure then the tractor begins to stall (acts like it's running out of gas) then shuts down. The tractor will start again and run fine as long as no load is applied. If load is applied it will shut down again. After it cools off the process will repeat. Here are steps I've taken: changed coil, plugs, oil and oil filter, fuel filter, new gas line, gasket in sediment bowl and clean bowl. Any Help?????

I have a 49 Ford 8N that is doing a similiar thing. I bought it last fall and did not have any problems. I changed the oil. Now the tractor starts fine and the oil pressure is about 50. After running the tractor for 20 minutes the oil pressure goes down to slightly above 20psi then the tractor stalls under load acting like it is getting no gas. The tractor will continue to run in nuetral but if I try to drive her she stalls. I can let her sit for 10 minutes and she will start and run fine .... for a little while. It seems like the stalling cooresponds to low (20) oil pressure but maybe not. Does this sound like your problem?

I have the same issue with my side mount 8N. Idles oh but when a load is put on it ,acts like it"s not able to get enough gas. Changed plugs(autolite 437),wires,oil,cleaned glass bowl sediment(found no screen filter at bowl).

(is there another filter in the tank , How do i get it out)

Sam..... ...ya gotts WEAK SPARKIES, that is why it is shuttin' down under LOAD. There are 4-common runn-time issues with the 4-nipple frontmount N-Engine.

1) runs for about 1-min and quits; restarts after about 15-min; bad condenser
NOT yer stated problem
2) runs for about 5-mins and quits; restarts after about 15-min; clogged fuel filters (3ea)
NOT yer stated problem
4) runs for about 1-hr and quits; restarts after overnite cooldown; bad ignition coil
NOT yer stated problem
3) runs for about 15-mins and quits; restarts after 1/2hr cooldown
Sound like yer stated problem?

BAD IGNITION SWITCH GUTTZ!!! Do I haffta tell ya to replace yer weaksister ignition switch? $10, cheap..... ..respectfully, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Dell,

When I jumper around the ignition switch and run the tractor she still shuts down after about 10 minutes. Can I assume the ignittion switch is OK?

You didn't say if the govenor appears to be working correctly. Just a thought. It may need some work. Craig

My guess is that you have carb problems. I'd do a carb rebuild. Make sure you soak the carb over night at least if not longer if you do the rebuild your self.
