Compair that to about 5g of diesel, in about 2hr45m, and 9+ ac on my 90hp NH 7610s.

I'm burning more diesel per hour..but less fuel per ac...

That's pretty good on a tractor that size. I have a MF255 that I do most of my hogging and tillage work with. I use the 8N with the planter and cultivator on my deer corn.

I had always heard how little fuel a MF255 uses and it was true. I have filled the tank up only one time this summer and still have over a half a tank. Have cut around 9 acres of pines about 3 times. Haven't really ever checked it for sure but doesn't use much fuel at all.

I bush hogged about 35 acres with the N one time and then bought the other tractor. I forget how many tanks of gas I used. I cut it with the MF255 and it was about 1/3 of the gallons used. From a fuel perspective, I believe it was less than 40% of the cost with the diesel.

How many tractors do you have now?

What engine is in the 255? 3 or 4 cylinder Perkins? Our 165 has the 4 & has always been stingy on fuel too, & darn near zero maintenance. Amazing for a 40 year old tractor.

It takes me 2 hours & 2 gallons of gas to cut my 2+ acres of pasture; I say 2+ because it really is 3 acres, but I've got probably 1/2 acre or more in the vegtable garden, the wifes flower garden & the herb garden. The N's generally average a gallon an hour, but what you can cut/plow/mow/bush-hog in an hour will vary considerably.

Bingo!

That said: as previously posted, flathead Ns are not especially fuel efficient. If fuel efficiency is important you will be much better off with a WD AC or, better yet, a modern diesel.

About 3/4 to 1 gallon per acre...These old Ns like this liquid gold pretty good....They claim a Zenith carb. does some better..I have a Zenith but have not run it enough to know...

I mow my 13 acre grass runway with one fillup (almost 10 gallons of gas) of my 9N. I use a 5 foot shredder and run in 2nd gear mostly.

Sounds like better than average mileage to me..Being a runway you probably keep it cut where it isn"t extremely heavy cutting, which will definitely rob some gallons.. Thanks

I just finished cutting it today. The majority of it was about 14" tall (KR Bluestem mostly), but some of it was pretty thick and I had to drop down to first gear for the parking area (about an acre.)
