I have 3-4 studs that hold the manifold on. They keep working free. Upon inspection, the stud is coming loose in the block. It seems that when I tighten the brass nuts, the stud turns in and out.

How do I remedy that? Is there a way to turn the studs in, and then tighten the brass nuts?

Or, should I buy new studs, clean the threads within the block? Your advice and expertiese is appreciated. thank you in advance. 9N'er

9N'er..... .since the manifold studs go thru the block into the waterjacket, this is what I'd do.

I'd use a clean-up tap on the block. I'd use new studs. I'd use some stud pucky. I'd still use brass nuts. After the stud pucky cured (24 hrs?), I'd re-install the manifold with new gasket and torque the 7/16-20 5/8 hexhead brass nuts to 27 ft/lbs..... ..Dell

I got some strange looks when I went in to NAPA this morning and asked if anyone in there has stud puckey.

I proceeded to tell them I need stud puckey.

After some explaining I said I had no clue what it was, but it had to do with my loose studs.

I said I needed to ream out my stud holes and clean them good and put puckey in it.

All three of them just stared at me, and no one said anything. I felt on the spot, and casually went to another store. 9N'er

I think that's why I got the stares; I think they thought I was searching for something else when I told em I needed a stud puckey; and they all looked at each-other when I asked them if any of them had it.

Hi Dell, I thought you advice was good, but I couldn't find "stud puckey" in the locktite catalog. Is that a brand name or an aircraft/aerospace term?...Al English

i would try new studs after cleaning up the treads. if worse comes to worse you can heli-coil them. I have heli-coil heads bolts and exhaust manifold bolts on small block chevys and they worked out ok

hope this helps you make a decision
