I wanna change my oil in the tranny to 90 weight from WalMart, to see if that will stop the drip I have from the weep hole. I already have it full of MC134, which I can drain, filter and reuse in my hyd unit if need be. The hitch is my Sherman Combination, which is also full of MC134, almost a quart is in there, which will not come out when I drain the tranny. Do y'all see any problem with this mixing in there, and BTW, how does one check the oil level in the NAA tranny?

So if I understand you correctly, if you have a Sherman, then you have to change the oil in it separately from the hydraulics and the differential? I thought they were all lubricated from the same sump.

Iffn you have a 9/2/8 N tractor then the Sherman is oiled from the same sump as the rest of the transmission. However it is splash lubricated and oil does not drain outta the sherman drive case. So when you drain the transmission oil the oil in the sherman will not drain out.

I don't think that little mixing will harm anything either. M-134 is suitable for the NAA hydraulics only, but then only if you prefer it. NAA axle and tranny would be fine with GL-3 or even GL-5/90W. Forget the SMO 90W, thats a pre-war 9N thing. Fill the tranny till fluid just reaches the opened fill level plug on the tranny side.

When I asked the same question due to a leaky PTO shifter seal, the consensus was it was not a big deal. I am sure there is still some mixing going on between the differential and hydraulic housing via the PTO seal as well - at least on mine as it still has the original FoMoCo stamp on that seal :-)

Ramrod,

I don't see how a small amount of the 134 could hurt the 90 wt. They are both petroleum products. I also doubt if it would dilute the 90 wt. oil very much either (in my opinion).

On checking the oil level in the transmission, there is a pretty good size pipe plug on the right side of the transmission housing (not the gearshift bracket pivot screws).

If I recall, the pipe plug head is 11/16 or 3/4.
