I wanted to post a conclusion to an earlier thread I started regarding the little ladies 8n front mount (Tractor!).

After verifying spark, and ignition components, and rebuilding the carb twice, I took the little gem to a real mechanic (I needed my shade tree for another project).

I explained what I did and that if their diagnostic skills indicated carb, to just put in a remanufactured one.

The poked and proded and decided it was the carb. Just out of curiosity (and without billing me) they played with the existing carb. They verified it all clean and put together right. They bolted on a reman. and it runs like a top.

Conclusion - If the rebuild doesn't do it, and your sure it is the carb, trust yourself and put on a remanufactured one.

Thanks for all your help.

Preston.

I hope the folks on this forum don't get tired of hearing the some old stories again and again, but;

When I first bought my 49 8N in 1977 it ran pretty good as long as you pulled the choke lever out about half way. Open the choke all the way and it would sputter and die; close the choke and it would flood out and die. Somewhere in the middle was just right.

I knew this was not right so I tinkered with the carb and tried rebuild kits etc... I even had the manifold re-brazed where it had a small crack; All to no avail.

I finally decided to buy a new MS carb and a new manifold. After that, the 8N ran like a champ. It was nice to run the tractor without having to keep the choke cable pulled out all the time.

I kept the old carb all these years and it came in handy when I got my Jubilee project tractor. I used the float out of the old 8N carb in the old Jubilee carb, which was bad.

Rick.

You got the old carb?

Check to see you got the two small jets out of the kit in the right place. I hear they can be swapped resulting in much consternation.

The old carb was sent back for the core deposit. I will keep this in mind though for the future.
