I just read the latest posts and got one of my questions answered (what an ORC is for). The other question I had is about the ORC also. In one of the last questions I posted I stated that I had an ORC on my '46. Now I'm not sure. When I bought the bush hog the splines on the hog and tractor were different size so I got an adaptor. The end that goes on the tractor is 2 1/2" in dia. It tapers up to about 3" and it has a snap rin holding the innerds in place, the other end has the hog spline. Is this an adaptor AND ORC or do I need something else for when I get the hog driveshaft shortened and before I use it???

Sounds like an ORC. Grab hold and turn it. An ORC ratchets free one direction but locks up and will not turn the other; unless you can turn the PTO shaft along with it.
The PTO run CW? An ORC will ratchet CW but will lock and not turn CCW. An adapter will not ratchet any which way. Adapters do not have a 3" diameter.

Thanks Rob & Dell.I must have an ORC cuz it turns in one direction and locks up when I try to turn it the other way. When I went to my Ford ,New Holland dealer the old guy (I'm 60 he was older) must have known what I needed and sold me the right thing.

Dick..... ...you can gitt ORC's with eather 1-1/8F or 1-3/8F input to fit the 6-spline PTO shaft and a 1-3/8M output to fit the brushhogg coupler.

A simple 1-1/8 up-size sleeve doesn't do it..... ...Dell, the self-appointed ORC Safety Preacher
