I would like to know if the lift control lever shaft can be removed on an old 8N Ford tractor without having to remove the lift cover and other internal parts. Looking at the diagram in my manual it looks like it is possible but I wanted to get someone elses advice before I attempt this. I feel that the cam on the shaft has been worn down enough that it is not operating properly and would like to remove it to check it out. Anyone out there have any ideas??? Thanks, Roanld

You can't get the quadrant shaft out of the lift housing without taking the top cover off the tractor and you couldn't do any repair even if you could.

You probably need my jig and a new cam follower pin to fix the lift back workable adjustment. There is nothing you can do to that shaft. It is not the problem anyway. The problem is a worn cam follower pin and or the cam itself which is less likely.

See the link below for more information.

I would contact Zane. Purchase his adjustment jig. Intall a new cam follower pin. Clean up the insides if it hasnt been done before and then put it back together. Only took a few hours to do and a couple of beers. You will be happy when you have the machine back together and it works like new.

Pulling the top cover is a breeze..... just did it for the first time myself 2 weeks ago. Glad I did it.
