I went to the local Ford/New Holland dealer today and got some pricing on stuff for my NAA. Get this, $250 for the seat spring. $175 for the 12v Conversion kit. $45 for the owner's manual. I did end up getting a new temp guage kit and throttle grommet and some new light bulbs.

Dealer is like anyone else, got some good prices and some not so good prices. That 12v conversion is $168 on this site, $175 at your dealer. What manual you talking about? The Shop Manual? CNH sells the Operator"s Manual for $5 around here.
NAPA sells the valve chamber gaskets for $5/pr. CNH has them for less than a buck.
Ain"t nobody best price for anything and everything; not to mention form, fit and function. It all plays in.

I'm going to break the chain here. The CNH dealer in my area is staffed with people that know what they are doing and their advise has to be worth something. The parts that they sell are original quality replacement parts that actually fit. You get what you pay for and if I have to pay extra in order to keep that business here then so be it.
Here is a "for instance". Recently I bought a 501 mower. While it works fine there are a couple of things to do to it to make it better. It was missing one of the springs that hold the travel rod and the cover for the balance spring was smashed. Even the parts people were stunned at the prices (spring - $30 and cover - $80). I got them today, the quality is excellent and guess what they said on them ----- "Made in the United States". For that label I will also pay extra.

I just called the dealer again for the heck of it to see what price they were giving for a new tach for my 53 NAA, $118. Looks like i'll be getting one off here or ebay.

No broken chain here; you have a valid point and I agree with you. The local NH dealer got plenty of my business (several hundred dollars worth) when I restored/refurbished my Jubilee last year.

However, in my view, some parts are more critical than others; especially if you don’t have a lot of money to spend on your tractor.

I decided I wanted a new steering wheel for my 49 8N. It still has the original steering wheel all warped, cracked and brittle.

I checked with the local NH dealer for convenience sake and they wanted $75 for a NH brand (said they didn’t carry the aftermarket brands) . I ordered one from Just 8N's for $35.

It’s not like I'll be driving it down I-75 every day.

Rick

Ryan..... ...you should ALWAYS check what parts cost before you go see the stealer. On the left sidebar, you can check what Yesterdays Tractors parts-store wants for parts. I just checked, flip-up panseat about $38. Flip-up seatspring about $49. This doesn't address yer concern, but perhaps yer partscounter person was trying to sell you a late model high-back padded safety seat. Hard tellin' from here..... ..Dell

It's a conspiracy to make us abandon these fine old tractors!! And buy shiny new "Yuppie Tractors". Thank God for aftermarket parts!! Of course, if one has a crop in the field, one must go to the Ford Dealer and pay $$$$. My local Ford Tractor dealer just went outta business! Area getting waaaaa y too developed!!

ok buy the same token if you have crops in the field like hay or? and theres rain perdicted for tomorrow and the tractor brakes don"t you wish there was a ford dealer down the street that had been supported,I sure do.Don"t get me wrong I shop around but when it comes to some parts you"d better go for the correct ones.
