I'm the proud new owner of an elderly 8N. Runs good, looking forward to mowing a road with it. 1949,with sherman Hi/Low 6v electrial

I'm sure I'll have 100 questions as time goes on but here is one to start. There is a linkage from the left brake pedal, which end up near the clutch. What does it do?

Rest of it all seems reasonably straight forward although with the tractor in 4th and the Sherman in high it reaaly scoots along... Who wanted to go that fast? Kinda scary!

Thanks

As far as the speed question - in the days of old - time was money! Many farmers had several fields spread out, and driving a slow tractor from one field to the next was "burning daylight". The higher gear helped them get back and forth quicker and get more work done in a day.

Congratulations on the new (to you) tractor, and ask as many questions as you want. A good hint though - search the archives at the top of the message board page to find many of the answers you will need. Chances are - the question has been asked, and answered, many times over the last few years.

Good luck,
Dan

Concerning the left brake linkage .. would you believe that it actuates the left brake?
