Well, shoot, I have had better weeks!! First the ice maker in the fridge went out.. durn motor burned out that dumps the ice out.. That part is on order

Then! the AC guy came out to check why the AC unit was not blowing as cold as it should. The cotton picking Coils in the outside unit were filthy!! We had cleaned them in the past, but only cleaning the one side of the A frame coils had not cleaned the back side. So, the guy did that and it works much better now.. Jeeze..

Then today!! Wife watered the garden , flower bed and what not. Later I noticed that the water pressure in the house was not up to par. Called water company to see if they had a problem,, nope, had to be on my side. Ok, went to the water shut off area which is beside a flower bed and a small pond for the birds to drink out of with a small fountain in it. Noticed that the pond was full of dirty water. Checked the hydrant there and it was leaking, underground of course.. Shut the water main off and dug up that pipe to the hydrant. The brass squeeze on fitting that the water company had put on to PVC some 3 years ago was leaking like Ole Faithful!!

Called them and got a big run around that since it was on MY side of the meter was my problem, even though THEY were the ones that put that crap in.. Anyway, dug it out, finally found a PVC fitting to put on and glued it in. Turned the water on, which is right next to the patch you understand. And got a face full of water geyser and blew my hat off!!

Ok, found another fitting and cut and put on some new PVC heavy wall pipe and reglued that!! Went to the shade tree and gave it time to dry. Turned water main on and THAT one blew out!!! I am soaked by now, but it felt ok in the 100 dg weather..

So, off to the local store and got a new fitting and a cap to close it off till I can find another hydrant like I want on it.. Put that one on with new jar of PVC glue.. Sat and watched it from the shade tree for I think one beer.. DANG !!! THAT one blew off after 30 minutes!!! Jeeze.. ok, one more try.. removed that rig and got new pipe and fittings from the barn and glued that on,, AFTER I used the PVC cleaner on it.. Glue it up, let it set for one more smoke and one more beer.. S L O W L Y turned it back on and watched it.. Been together for 5 hours as of now...

Jeeze, so glad it was warm out today, would hate to have been that wet in the cold!!

And yea, I did use the PVC cleaner on all the joints the first time. Don't know why it didn't hold the first few times.

OH, good news is, I did get my uncle and family down on the Mississippi coast on the phone finally. They are well, not much damage, and everyone is accounted for. Course the ones from New Orleans area are there for now,, wondering what to do next. At least their power and phone are back on and everyone is safe.

Did you allow the glue sufficient drying time?? The back of the can sez: 24 hours. I have laid many miles of PVC pipe (Used to work for a water system). Leaks are vile! Especially in buried pipe. Oh, well at least ya got it operational.

Hi OCB,

Did you know you can by the PVC glue especially made for quick drying/wet situations? It usually comes in a blue can and it dries much faster than the regular PVC glue.

Also, municipalities utilities usually have a higher than normal water pressure unless you have a regulating valve on your side of the meter.

Glad to hear for folks are OK.

Rick

Glad to hear your family is safe. it is hard to complain about the price of gas when you think about people that have lost their entire homes, jobs and even some family. As for your pvc problems, been there and cannot explain it either but now I use copper or galvanized everywhere I can now.
