Rebuilding TSX 241 B carb. Am using Don's online carb guide, but have questions on which jet is which since I had to drill out 2 jets.

I have the economizer jet in place. Of the two remaining jets, I'm guessing that the one with the smallest offrice is the idle jet and the one with the larger offrice is the main jet. Is this correct?

I have tentatively installed the idle jet and it screwed in with no problem.

I have looked high and low for the main jet and can not find one on this carb. Is the main jet in the bottom of the hole where the nozzle goes? In the bottom of the carb there is a hole, but it looks to just be a drain hole above the sintered plug.

In the back of the carb (other end fro the air inlet there appears to be a brass circular fitting pressed into the bottom. It would be where the high speed needle tip rests. It seems smaller that the main jet in the kit and doesn't appear to have any screw slot.

There is no jet in the bottom of the carb through the retangular hole (as shown in the pic).

Any help is appreciated. I'm trying to get this back together tonight.

Thanks.

Would you plese direct me to "Don's online guide to rebuilding the carburetor" I would like to read it.

Also I would like to read it if there is any article that decribes the theory and operating principles of the Marvel Schrebler Carburetors. Anybody know of such?

Economy jet???? What is that????? What is the theory of it's operation????? Where is it even????

The IT manual says that only the idle jet and the high speed nozzle are replacable?????

I hawe been working on these carburetors for 50 years and have as yet to ever take a jet out of one. Can't figure why you would want to???? They don't wear out to my knowledge? Of course I take the high speed nozzle out to clean it but that is it. All the other orifices I simply clean and probe with an acetylene torch tip cleaner of approptiate size. What am I missing here?

Zane,

The main jet was missing in this carb and the idle jet was buggered and mangled. I can see why you would just clean with wire once they were right. I'm in the process of fixing my gas tank so that I can avoid the clogged jet problems.

I attached the link to the carb file. It's located on the left of the screen under "articles"

Zane,

The economizer (that what I've heard it called in these forums) is at the bottom of the hole to the right of the idle jet.

The jet at the bottom of the high speed needle is the high speed jet or orifice.

I looked at the site that gives a good discription of the Marvel carburetor and there is no mention of any "economizer" jet.

I think it must be made up nomenclature!

Dell & Gaspump,

Thank you so much for the info. This carb did not have a main jet in it. That explains so issues....

All jets went in beautifully. Had to do some grinding on screwdrivers make proper tools.

I'll let you know how it went.

Again, thanks so much. Good to get this back together tonight.

Popster..... ....remember, the carburator breakout pictures LIE.

Both the economizer-jet and the idle-jet are interchangeable headless #8-32 brass screws (use hollow ground gun-smithing screwdriver) that mount in the throttle plate half of the carb. The idle-jet size is 0.024" and is closest to the carburator venturi. The economizer-jet is 0.041-47" and is closest to the fuel float hinge.

The main-jet is a #10-32 headed brass screw at the bottom of the float chamber under the 3/8" main nozzle. Again, use a gunsmithing screwdriver. The main-jet size is 0.074" (#49 drill, which is slightly bigger than 1/16" drill)..... ..... HTH, Dell

Sort of late and don't have all my data here but Right on, there ain't no jet where that photo shows one. The Power Jet is in the same bore as what the photo shows as the main nozzle. As best as I can recall the idle and mains are about the same bore but they are not the same size so you cant mis-place them. All jets have slots for screwdrivers. The small part you describe could be the soft stop for the main "high speed" needle which is near the drain at the bottom of the bowl where the photo points to a main jet. Sounds like you are getting it, sure it will be done shortly.
