I've got a 45 2n and have heard that there is an adapter to convert to a auto type spin on oil filter. Is that true and where can I get such a gizmo.

Popps..... ...yep, its kinda true. You can gitt common PH-8A spinn-onn filter adaptor kits from outfits like JC Whitney ...BUT... you gotta make yer own filter adaptor bracket to hold it to engine block. This is a trival exercise to a competent shadetree mechanic. There is NOTHING wrong with using the replaceable filter cartidge. Its good enuff for Mercedes-Benz. NAPA Gold 1010 or Wix 51010..... ....Dell

Dell,

When people ask about a spin-on filter conversion, why don't you mention they need a restrictor in the system, similar to the one in the center tube of the original canister filter's
center tube, or they will bypass too much oil and have LOW, or NO oil pressure?

Bottom line... the original system is a BYPASS system that filters somewhere around 20% of the oil pump's capacity, and MOST spin-on filter kits are designed for full-flow, and are not set up to restrict the oil flow, to keep up the oil pressure to the rest of the engine.

Furthermore, MANY spin-on filters do not have the moisture trapping capabilities of the "N"'s original filter, and are NOT a good candidate for use on an old engine with poor crankcase ventilation.

Bob..... ...good points. Considering that many engines of that era, oil filters were "optional", and N-Engines came with a replaceable oil filter as standard eqmt. AMAZING..... ...Dell
