i just went through my 2n front mount distributor and all the plug wires and i finally got it to start, but it won"t rev up to high rmp. it sounds pretty good on at a medium RPM, but if i try to go full power, it won"t rev up and it sounds choppy. i have tryed ajusting the carborator. any thought on what it might be. thanks for any help.

Andrew, I had the same problem and I thought I may had mixed up the firing order so I flipped #'s 3 and 4 and had a heck of a backfire. I discovered the spark plug in #3 cyclinder was bad - replaced it and no more problems.

Andy..... ....ya changed yer sparkie wires (I hope you used real copper-core sparkie wire) and now you can't gitt-itt to run to high rpms? Zatt-rite? Well bucky, it ain'chur carburator. Check yer 4-nipple frontmount distributor firing order. 1,2,4,3, CCW. Thats..... .

Sparkie #1 to nipple #1 at 10 o'clock
Sparkie #2 to nipple #2 at. 8 o'clock
Simple, eh? now PAY ATTENTION 'cuz it gitts tricky here
Sparkie #4 to nipple #3 at 4 o'clock
Sparkie #3 to nipple #4 at 2 o'clock
therefore: FIRING ORDER 1,2,4,3 CCW, isn't that amazing?

Heres the deal, yer N-Engine is so good it will start and run on just 2-cylinders and make you think it is running on all 4-cylinders ...except... you can't gitt enny power or high-rpms. Usually its sparkie wires #3 & #4 swapped..... ...respectfully, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Sounds like your advance is stuck. It must move freely.A drop or so of oil on pivit points is usually enough.

I ain't no mechanic but...If you take the distributor apart you'll see the two centifigal advance weights inside. Should just be two flat peices of metal rounded to fit inside the distributor. My understanding is they have to move freely to advance the timing. Mine were completely frozen in place by crud.
