OK guys, what's the difference between a 9n,2n tool box and an 8n tool box? I take it they are not the same. Saw an 8n tool box in the parts ads for a decent price but didn't buy it cuz I have a 2n . Want one pretty bad just cuz I don't have one.

The 9n 2n tool box look the same, the mounting is diferent. 9ns have an aluminum battery mount casting that the tool box bolts to with the help of a bracket riveted to the back of the toolbox. 2n has a cast iron, stamped steel steering/battery area and uses the same tool box but without the riveted on bracket. I bought a 9n box for my 2n and spent a long time figuring this out as the seller on ebay said it fit 9n/2n. I eventually ground off the rivets and removed the bracket and mounted the toolbox. If you have the sherman transmission you may have a problem with the shift lever hitting the tool box. I had to heat up the shift lever and bend it out just a touch to get it to clear the box.

8N toolbox is shaped to fit up against the angled backside of the dash. You mount it thru the floor of the box.

The 9N/2N box has the more universal shape as you've seen.

Richard..... ....Jeff is correct. The dealer installed slanted back toolbox is for 8N's ONLY because the 8N's dashpanel frame have 2-built-in nutplates for attachement that the 9N/2N's don't have.

The dealer installed toolboxes for both the 9N and the 2N were rectangular boxes that attached to the side of the battery tray alongside the engine over the starter. The 2N toolbox is different from the 9N toolbox. John Smith's site has pictures..... ...Dell
