I have a 1946 2n with top mount 12v coil. Cracked coil was changed and now no spark after the coil. I did notice pigtail on old coil only had about 2 coils and flush with coile surface while the new one is approx. 1/2 inch long. Is it possible the old is right or did it get melted off or whatever?? Left old points which appear ok and did not change condensor. Any more ideas? Also, befor coil failed I did blow a fuse a couple of times (30A) in which case not able to start until changed them. Any ideas?? Thanks.

Ronnie..... ....most ignition coils only need about 3-amps to operate. And usually ignition coil circuits are NOT FUSED, but they can be iff'n you want them fused. Wannna guess why you blew a 30-amp fuse? Wannna guess why you don't have enny sparkies. First 2-guesses don't count.

You have an ELECTRICAL SHORT somewheres in yer wiring. The cracked coil is a result of OVERHEATING from excessive amps being drawn by yer short circuit. It could be the condenser ...but... examine ALL yer wiring for burned/cracked insulation..... ....Dell

Thanks Dell, I'll trace wiring from ignition switch to coil as probably the source of problem, but why do ya think no spark from distributor - other than the short might have ruined the condensor??

Methinks the short is downstream of your coil -- likely in the distributor -- since it wrecked your coil. If it was the wire going to the coil, it probably wouldn't fry the coil.
