I know I saw this in the archives but now I can't find it. How can I tell which side of the switch is "hot?"

Doesn't matter. Either side can be the hot. Just connect one side wire to the battery (Neg. post if orig. or Pos. post if 12v conv.) and the other side wire connects to one side of the resister. Of course, the other side of the resister is wired directly to the top of the coil. HTH..JMHO..Ro

I just have a toggle switch but should be similar. The battery side is hot with the switch off and with it in the run or on position both sides will be hot. The resistor(s) is on the coil side of switch. I use a volt meter to determine.
