I'm thinking i will rebuild the pump on the NAA (53 model) but am unsure which rebuild kit to get. I have a pump that is mounted on the right side of tractor just under battery tray location. Looks like it is bolted to a location that will use the flywheel to spin the pump. Question is, only kit i see on here is for a piston type pump, i'm thinkin that is not what i have. any help would be great on this matter.

If it's leaking, check the o-rings under the pump where the lines connect. Use only the CNH o-rings here better and still cheap.

Why do you think you want to rebuild the hydraulic pump? If it is not loosing it's prime after sitting for a while it probably doesn't need rebuilding.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I do need to rebuild it as it has the occasional quart of fluid sitting under it for some reason. Don't know why, but when there is a heavy load then the fluid comes out. I was figuring a seal or something. Hence it needing a rebuild.

Just because it is leaking does not mean that it needs "rebuilding" You need to find out where the oil is coming from and fix that.

Rebuilding that pump is a major undertaking and not a job for the novice.

Here is what you need first and formost to rebuild the hydraulics on a NAA tractor. Just click the lin below for an EXCELLENT document written by fellow board member Ramrod on detailed instructions and tips (including pics) on rebuilding the entire lift system. Save it to your computer.

As far as the pump, if your pump looks like this picture - you have a piston type pump. If it is more square on the end farthest from where it attaches to the tractor, it is a vane style pump. Rebuild kits for the piston pump are readily available and cheap - but be aware they put all the parts for either an NAA or a 600/800 series piston pump in the same rebuild kit, which are slightly different. Research the archives for good details on how to tell the difference and test your work. If you have the vane style - rebuild kits are available - but they are extremely costly (like $300 or so). It is usually cheaper to find a used piston style pump to replace it (you would need new manifold pipes as well).

Good luck,
Dan

Would the link you posted for a naa hydraulic set up be the same for a 51 8n. Thank you

A very small part would be (like the draft and position control linkage stuff) but most of it would not as the 8N uses a different system.

Very nice NAA! You have a piston type pump, rebuilds are cheap. Be sure to check the inner oil seal and needle bearing for damage. They are challenging to remove, but can be done (I did).

Your NAA looks similar to mine. Have you seen my website on my NAA project yet?

Good luck,
Dan

Dan,
Unfortunately i was just using that picture for reference as my tractor is not in that good of shape and has been painted that ugly industrial blue color. I'm thinking of strippin it all down and going with a different color schema other than the gray and red. Any suggestions.
