The other day a guy wanted me too do some work on his 8-n.The old tractor needs a tune up and a few other minor things. My question is on the right hand axle housing theres a stub that sticks out for the three point arm too hook too and theres a seal leaking on the stub, does the axle housing have too come off to replace that seal or can it be replaced where it is?It looks like theres a platethat bolts over this shaft but I ain't sure. Thanks in advance,Eric

Eric..... .what jim said.....and.....
Only the 3-speed tranny 9N/2N have a external bracket over the lower 3-point hitch. 8N's have 4-speed trannys and no bracket. The leaky lower 3-point "fix" is the same. REMOVE yer axle trumpet and tighten yer internal cotter-keyed castelated nut to 150 ft/lbs..... ....Dell

It's not a seal. The pin is just loose. Yes, you have to pull the axle trumpet to get to it and tighten it. It's best to remove the left trumpet. That way you can get to both pins and tighted both. They should be tightened to 150 ft/lbs. If the hole is wallowed out you can use JB Weld to build up the worn part and finish it down to the right size. James
