I recently overhauled an 8N tractor - new distributor - starter wires. However the tractor seems to lack power idles fine but spits when throttled up under a load - any suggestions on fixing this problem?

#1 is the water pump end of your engine. If front mount the cap has numbers on it that tell you which wire goes to which cylinder.

Art..... ....ya mucked with yer sparkies wired didn't ya?

Check yer firing order, 1,2,4,3 CCW. These old N-Engines are soooo goood that they will start and run on just 2-cylinders, but won't have enny power when you throttle'em up. Thats:

sparkie #1 is connected to nipple #1 at 10 o'clock
sparkie #2 is connected to nipple #2 at...8 o'clock
simple, eh? now PAY ATTENTION 'cuz it gitts tricky here
sparkie #4 is connected to nipple #3 at 4 o'clock
sparkie #3 is connected to nipple $4 at 2 o'clock
therefore firing order is 1,2,4,3 CCW, isn't that amazing?

HTH..... ...Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Thanks much for the info.

Is Spark #1 closest to the drivers seat or closest to the fan belt?

Thanks again

My first suggestion would be to doublecheck the firing order; 1243 (front to back).
