Finally, after repeatedly (3 times) removing the distributor, inspecting, replacing and a new key switch - I put new points in a second time. This time, the ammeter was really jumping when it turned over! then...SUCCESS! Grandpa's (Roscoe)9n was running again after about 5 years of sitting. It fires right up now. I had to go out a half dozen times this weekend just to fire it up. I have the rear wheels off getting new tires and rims so I couldn't run her around the yard yet. Lots of work to do though. Grandpa put a voltage regulator on it and just cut the wires to the cut out. I've seen Dell's post on this and ordered a new harness, the cut out, new resistor (his wiring job didn't match the diagrams), plus a carb kit and the works. I know the distributor well and am learning the other electrical wiring. I'm sure you'll see me around as I try and tackle the rest. I'm no mechanic, but I am determined. Thanks for everyone's help.

You're ruined now..., great to have another enthusiast on board! Just wait till you go wheels down and see what these old machines can do while you have fun.
