OK I am kinda at the end of my rope here. Been trying to install new valve assy's in my 8n. I can NOT get gides to seat far enough in the block to get the clips on. Granted I do not have the special "Valve gide leaver tool" they show in the manual. What are some tips for me? Am I doing something wrong? I DID get to in, and leaverd the top of the gide down from the ports, but the restr are not going.

Also some places I have read that the Orings on the gides just go on the intakes not the exousts. The old ones had them on all, and the manual does not say, so do the all get them, or just the intakes? Thanks for any help. My restore project is stalled till I get these buggers in. Thanks!!

Don't worry about the valve seals on the exhaust valves, it won't hurt anything.

I tapped mine in with a piece of hardwood. They were real tight. Mine all came out with the o-rings. I didn't know only the intakes used them so put them all back in with them. Seems to run OK and engine now has 30 hrs. on it.

Did you put the gides in first, then assamble the valves in them?

First I ran a small brake cylinder hone in the bores to clean them up (just a little bit), then installed one piece valve guide and retainer, then installed new valves. Borrowed a friends valve seat grinder and lapped the new ones in for a good fit.

Only the intakes should have the seals on them.

Probably some left over seal materials in the exhaust guide bores preventing the guide going down.

I use an old GI issue screw driver that has a notch ground into it to push them down throught he port holes.

OK, so I should pop out the exoust and take the Orings off then? There not the ones I did get clipped, so thats doable.

As for the other two intakes. The bores seemed fine. Maybe I should just pull them also, and dubble check. I cleaned the block, but maybe there some carbon or something in the way.
