Well, I got all of my parts I ordered today. Tomorrow evening when I get home from work I will start rewiring my 8N. I got a new resistor, and new 12V coil, a new ammeter, a new oil pressure guage and a new head gasket and carb gasket kit. I hope to get it running for the first time this weekend. If it starts up I'll be super excited about getting all the paint done and getting the tractor restored. I just feel like it would be a big step if I can get it running.

Glad you are excited about getting the old machine running. After reading your post, I notice a few things which may or may not be an issue. You mention 'new 12v coil' and 'new resistor'. Now.. that said.. there are lots of coil / resistor combinations.

If you have a side mount distribuitor with a round can type coil.. don't bother using a dropping resistor like the 8ne10306 12to6 resistor and a 6v coil.. instead get a real 12v coil like a napa IC14sb.. No resistors needed.

Now.. if you are using the oem 6v front mount square coil, you will need the oem ballast resistor, and the 8ne10306 dropping resistor to run it on 12v. lastly.. if you have a newer 12v tisco style square coil you don't use either the ballast or the 8ne10306 resistor.. instead you use a pair of radio shack 1 ohm/10watt resistors twisted together in parallel to make 1/2 ohm/20watt resistor. 271-131 is the part number for a 2-pack of radio shack 1 0hm/10watt resistors.

If you have any questions, please post back.
