I purchased the Pertronix electronic ignition to install on my 9N front distrbiutor. The installation was very easy, however, it will not fire up. Anyone have any ideas....Thanks

I recently installed a Pertronix on my front mount that would not work and drove me crazy. Thought it was defective. Turned out that I installed the short black wire from the ignition module to the wrong side of the little black fiber washer on the post where the pigtail from the coil makes connection. Still not sure why that makes a difference when it was touching the post in any event. Anyway, I absolutely love it now that I have it running. Firing up on the first try consistently is worth $100 to me, and every other post you read here is about adjusting or replacing something in the distributor.

Just an update. I had converted this 9N to 12V last year with no resistor and have nad no issues. The tractor has been used almost every week since the conversion with no issues. I started the tractor right before staring the electronic ignition conversion and it started right up. I know, you old timers are saying then why are you converting. I am converting because I am tired of messing with the points. At least once per year the points close up and I have to take the distributor apart to readjust them.

The little black wire cannot touch the stud at all. It needs to just touch the brass colored screw that touches the coil. There is a little nylon washer on one side that isolates the screw and coil from the stud. There is a little black teflon washe on the other side of the stud that isolates the black wire from the stud. So it is hooked up this way. Brass screw, nylon washed, stud, black washer, black wire, nut. This drove me crazy, but now it runs like a champ. They should have made the stud out of some non conductive material.

Yep, makes sense to me, instead of $.50c for a NEW SCREW so yer points won't slip, you splurge $100 for electrionic ignition kit.

You do know Pertronix has excellent telephone trouble shooting advisors, don't you? ..... ...respectfully, Dell
