Last winter I asked some questions in here regarding my 8n that I had bought. I had already spent time on an 8n at the cemetery that I helped run so I was familiar with their capabilities and limitations. They are a great tractor no doubt. I bought the 4ft box scraper and I am glad I did. I put all new rubber on it and with that 4ft box blade it can move some dirt even though it is narrower by a bit the unit is small enough that an 8n can handle it much easier. The KK dirt scoop is VERY useful and with those implements the tractor paid for itself in about a months time in the work it done for me on my place I am cleaning up. I knew that at some point it would need a good refurbishing I am going to repaint it this winter I will have to post pics of the progress on here. I am comfortable with painting for the most part and I have a friend that I may take the sheet metal to so he can really make it nice. It will get a new grill and problably new side panels. One problem I have that I want to ask about is the right rear hub it is loose and I tried tightening it and also with shims and to no avail I am sure either the hub and or axle is wollered out and the splines are no longer a tight fit. I know I will have to pull it off. Is it likely that I will have to replace or repair the axle? I know of a good machinist if it is possible to rework these parts. Sorry for the long post. I appriciate any advice on this axle/hub problem. Richard

Wyler..... ...at $50 fer 8N splined hub, it ain't worth yer money paying a machine shop to try and "re-furb" yer current wallered out splined hubs.

Yer 8N rear axle has "hardened" splines and is generally "bullett-proof". Just remember to torque and re-torque yer rear axle nut to 450ft/lbs..... ...Dell

Thanks for the info Dell. Surely my axle will be fine as well. Should I get a new hub from my NH dealer? Or are the ones from aftermarket sources the same thing? Richard

Hi Richard,

I just replaced the two hubs on my Jubilee (same as 8N). One side was a little loose; I got the new hub from the local NH dealer ($90 with tax). It was of good quality and fit good and tight when I torqued it down. I checked the other side and it was just a hair loose but not much. I decided to get another hub for that side as well. I ordered one from an online supplier ($70 with shipping). The quality was good but maybe not as good as the NH hub.

Anyway, my axle hubs are good and tight now. HTH. Rick

Hello Rick thanks for the info I have a good NH dealer not too far away that I have gotten parts from before so I will just get one from them. I think my other one is good but I will check it as well. The extra $20 or so would be well worth the higher quality. Richard
