Im putting my 8n's motor together, and I had gotten a new front crank pulley for it. Any tricks for installing this thing? I know they normaly fit tight, but this is REAL tight. Also any tips for getting the key slot lined up when I do find a way to install it? I know I have to be right on, becouse its not spining any when it gets on there.

The crank pulley has a notch in the end that fits on to the crank. it fits a pin ( a key) on the crank. when you install the pulley you will not be able to see it anymore. You will need to index the end of the crank to the key way. To insure that you line this up when you install the pulley and do not damage the end of the pulley or key way. i go as far as to measure the length of the crank and the depth of the pulley to make sure i have the pulley on all the way. The crank snout will be about 1" .550'" long. The dept of the crank pulley is about 1" .625 deep.
A new rope seal will make the pulley go on hard. Soak the new rope seal in oil for 30 min prior to instillation You can install the crank pulley on haft way and then install the timing cover this will make it easier to line up the pulley and not damage the front seal. you must leave room to install the pan bolts in the cover

The degree of tightness may depend on how well you pressed the new rope seals into the engine block and oil pan.

Look at the front of the pulley and crank shaft and align the keyway by sight as good as you can and start driving/tapping the pulley on as evenly as you can, stopping occasionally to observe the alignment of the woodruff key. There is a close fit between the timing gear cover and the pulley. You will know when it bottoms out; install pulley bolt (not sure of torque value). HTH Rick

Yep, what Dell says...or put it in gear, block/chock the wheels to hold the engine while you torque it down.
