Well, the 2N front mount is loosing anti-freeze/coolent and this morning I noticed the oil fill breather cap is fill with white and dripping water. I cut grass for about three hours and it ran good, but kept dripping water. Whan starting it blows white smoke for a stort time.
I pulled the top off and removed plugs and they looked dry with a white tint, but rather clean. I checked compression wet and got 100/120PSI on all four.
Any suggestions? Should I just remove head and replace gasket for the fouth time in six years?
Thanks

Russ several of the head studs are wet and have to be put together with a thread sealant to keep the water out of the combustion chambers. I used the sealant on my 8-n and have never had a problem. I used a sealant from Cummins Engine Mfg. Most people over look this little trick.Four head gaskets in 6 years does't sound right. Let me know if this solves the problem.

I already bought the head gasket and will install in the next couple of days. I had the head ground last year. I hope this does it, and it is not a crack in the block?
Thanks for all your help.

Russ..... ..all description indicates you have a leaking head-gaskett. And iff'n yer having to replace the head gasket every year; well $20 head gasket is cheaper'n $150 cylinder head; and also cheaper'n $1500 engine overhaul.

You may have a "warped" flathead and need it "skimmed" at an engine rebuild shop. Iff'n you do decide to "mill the head", check for piston and valve clearances before you put everything back together. Just loosely 4-bolt yer cylinderhead corners with NO GASKETT and then hand-crank yer engine watching for head movement. Simple, eh?

The latest "trick" that the flathead V-8 guys are doing is to SOAK their headgasket in warm water for about 1-hr before installation. Supposted to improve sealing. Don't know, worth thinkin'bout..... ..Dell

Forgot to mention, there is no water in oil or oil in water.
Thanks

You may want to get the head planed just enough to make it flat again while you're at it.

Instead of actually milling the head like they used to always do..my machinist uses a BIG belt sander to do most heads on.. he trued up my 8N head, said he had to take .007 off the ends, just cleanup in the middle.. find a machinist that can do this, then you won"t have any clearance issues when you put it back together..cost was around $60

clairification purpose only, any time you take material off regardless of the machining tech.you must check for proper clearence as Dell suggest...as far as a belt sander and real machining of surfaces thats debatable, however $60.00 dollars for five minutes on the belt seems excessive to me..$30.00 dollars would be more in line,
