I have included a picture of a problem that I have noticed. See where the part of the 3 point hitch attaches to the axle housing....I was trying to remove the nut holding it on so I could remove it but the whole stud is turning in the axle housing. It's also leaking some fluid out around that loose stud. What do I do about this before I get carried away and start tearing stuff apart?

Excellent pictures! I had the same problem many years ago on my 8N, and may have found an easier way to service the 3 pt pin. I hope that I am recalling this accurately. I know that I did not remove either trumpet. But I think that I removed the PTO shaft and bearing assembly out the back of the diff case, and then reached in with a wrench to the castle nut. I remember it was darn tight quarters to work in, but I removed the old tapered pin and replaced it with a new one from FNH and was able to tighten it up sufficiently so that it has never leaked since. Of course, you will need to drain the tranny and diff oil before removing the PTO shaft.

Hope this helps.

Excellent! Thanks for the advice and pictures guys. It's nice to be able to come on here with a problem and have a solution in no time. I will remove the left one and tighten both castle nuts. I do need to get myself a torque wrench though....

Well, I just saw where John Hendrix has the same problem. The loose stud on mine is on the right axle trumpet but I guess I still need to remove the left one to get to the castle nut right? I just wanted to make sure before I got into all of that.

Alvin..... ...while you can remove only yer right rearaxle trumpet to tighten that lowerlink internally castelated and cotterkeyed NUT to 150ft/lbs; traditionally we recommend removing the LEFT rearaxle trumpet so you can tighten BOTH castelated nuts. You just "slide" yer diffy ring out for access to the RIGHT castelated nut. two nuts with 1-trumpet. Simple, eh?

tip: swipe yer paper based trumpet gasket with HOT-WATER so it fits over the diffy studs. Torque diffy studnuts to 50ft/lbs.

tip: check tightness of all yer diffy studs before installing trumpet to prevent leaks. ..... ...Dell
