I just received a 1948/49 Toro General Series 2 tractor and am having a hard time finding much info on this tractor. The engine has a Ford industrial tag near the top rear of the engine and has 8N-B cast on the side. What I would like to find out or get a picture of is a restored 8N industrial engine so I know how(colors)to paint it correctly. Anyone know about the difference between an 8n engine and a 8n industrial engine? Of course if anyone has any info on the Toro tractors from the late 40's that would be great too. Thanks Jon

I have mentioned this before so my apologies to frequent readers of this site for being redundant, but I have a Dearborn-Wood Bros. combine from about 1950 that is powered by a "Ford Farming Engine" that appears to have been pulled directly off of the 8-N assembly line (except that it has a magneto like a '42 2-N). It even has the same gas tank, radiator, exhaust pipe and muffler (set up for vertical exhaust). It happens to be painted Dearborn-Wood Bros red, convieniently, the same red that was used on the Ford tractors.

Jon..... ...8N-B is the 5-nipple sidemount distributor engine. Some have down-draft carbs with airfilter mounted directly on top. Some have fuelpumps on rightside of engine. Some don't have governor, some do. Hard telling what Ford's industrial engine sales would do to sell to buyer. What ever the buyer wants?

I've seen industrial engines painted many colors. Ford's OEM vermillion RED; industrial Yellow; Silver; Green; Black; OliveDrab. Its yer engine, paint it any color that pleases you..... ....Dell, the 20/20 painter..... looks good at 20ft or 20mph
