Gangue,

Somewhere I saw reference to a three point hitch tractor jack. Would like to see pics / plans as well as advice / experience on such an animal.

Thanks,

Paul

I have one that I bought off someone in the photo ads section. It has a Ferguson label on it, but I understand the same company made them for Ford and Ferguson. A little crudely made by more modern standards but very serviceable. When I wire brushed it to remove some surface rust, I noticed the metal tubing was marked "Youngstown" which an engineer friend said was the steel tubing manufacturer and that it was high quality, strong stuff. Anyway, it works as advertised and very handy. I noticed that someone was trying to sell new ones a while back and I think they were asking several hundred dollars or more for one. I don't have the metal ground plates so I use some 2x8s to set the frame on.

Back in the fifties we would use the tractor jack a couple of times a week during the cultivating season as we would need the tractor back to the regular size for other work. I have never seen a jack posted on this site that lookes like the one we used and I still have. I think that my dad purchased it in the forties.

I made one from Cargocult's plans, works just great! Lots of work though. Will take some pics one day and post here.

I can see lifting a tractor like this, but how about coming down. Seems like lots of potential for coming down fast and hard.

I know Ferguson made a jack like this, as well as Dearborn.

Paul,
Ya know I can barely remember a friend of mine talkin about somthing like that. If Iremember correct he made somethign him self that connected to the PTO and he was able to jack his tractor up by simply backing the tractor up. Can't remember for sure would you like me to try to reach him and ask?

Mike :)
