I have a 46 2N and am in process of tuning it up. I've never replaced the plug wires so I thot I would...I've got the first 2 through the cadmium tube but #3 is giving me fits. Does anyone have any tips about threading the new wire through the cadmium? The old wire is still in place. Thanks for any help! Jon

Jon..... ..never understood how/why people seem to have trouble threading their copper-core sparkie wires down the tube to their 4-nipple crabbcapp. It ain't like they're limp wet noodles.

I always started with the LONGEST FIRST. Pulled ALL OLD OUT. Silacone sprayed the sparkie wire and pushed. Iff'n you don't have silacone, don't worry, just DON'T USE PETROLIUM GREESE. All sparkie wires that I used were "cut-to-fit"; the nipple-end was BARE and the sparkie end had right-angle rubber-booties.

Remember, the 4-nipple cap firing order is 1,2,4,3 CCW and is supposed to be molded into the crabbcapp. Sparkie #1 is closest to radiator. Thats:

Sparkie #1 is connected to nipple #1 at 10 o'clock
Sparkie #2 is connected to nipple #2 at 8 o'clock
Simple, eh? NOW PAY ATTENTION 'cuz it gitts trickey here
Sparkie #4 is connected to nipple #3 at 4 o'clock
Sparkie #3 is connected to nipple #4 at 2 o'clock
therefore firing order is 1,2,4,3 CCW, isn't that amazing?

Respectfully, Dell the conduit threader

Thanks, Dell. My mistake was replacing the shortest 2 wires first. I'll know next time. Funny thing, I've had the tractor one year and the old wires have gray paint on them from the farmer brush paint job years ago. Figured it was time to replace:)

Jon..... ...so? pull yer shorter wires OUT and then re-fish'em after you've pulled yer LONGER sparkie wires.

And iff'n yer in Alaska, gitt some "wire-core" salmon fishing leaders and PULL yer wires thru the conduit. Tie-on with several fishing leader knotts, like "nail-head" or "timber-hitch". The skinny leader will be plenty strong enuff and stout enuff to thread thru yer conduit so you can PULL..... ..Dell

Dell, I finally got them threaded thru the cadmium. I'll know next time. Thanks to all of you for your help. I got to get the N tuned up for the winter to do my snow removal. Jon

Are you using copper or graphite core wires? The copper core ones are a lot stiffer than graphite. When I first got my 2N I replaced with graphite wires and had a heck of a time fishing them through that conduit.

When I replaced them with copper core, I was able to just push them on through without having use a fish to pull them.

Don't use graphite (automotive style) core wires on your tractor, they are higher resistance, which means lower spark energy at the spark plug.

A little lubricant (WD40 maybe)on the wire might help too.

I'm using copper core wires, hood still on. I'll try a string pull through if I can figure out best way to attach it to the wires...thanks for your help...
