I found a number to reduce 12 volt to 6 volt, its 8ne10306. Where do you buy these resistors(?)?
Thanks

You might be ahead to buy a 12V coil and be done with it, although Dell recommends 2 small resistors in parallel to cut the alternator voltage down to 12V from the normal alternator voltage of 14V+. Info is in the archives.

Up close to the top of this page there is a space marked search for, I have found it to be the best way to answer just about any question I have. There is not much that has not been discussed in in great depth. Check out the arvhive on resistors, it is very intresting and will prob. answer any question you have about it.

I think you are speaking of a resistor?????

With the resistor in series with the ignition circuit the voltage reading will be battey voltage when the ignition points are open. When the ignition points are closed the voltage reading will be about half or less according to how much resistance you have in the circuit in series.

I used the parts locater on this site and the resistor 8ne10306 I already have and it doesn't drop the voltage from 12 to 6. What do I have to use to drop the voltage?

If you truly want to drop 12 volts
down to 6 volts a voltage divider
formed by one or two resistors would
do this ONLY for one current draw.
You would need a solid state regulator
to provide constant 6 volts as the
load fluctuates.
If the ignition circuit draws a steady
current, you can get away with a voltage
droping resistor in series.
Your lights will need to be 12 volt bulbs.
The starter can operate with 12 volts.
