Now that I've removed my shreder (Howse brand) from my 8N, I'm plannig on painting it. Does anybody know of a good paint to keep the rust at bay? HOw much sanding should I do, down to bare metal? I remember my old Navy days on deck div.

When I bought my used mower, (more years than I care to remember), it had no paint anywhere on it. It was nothing but rust with a broken gear box. I bought it cheap, fixed the gear box and wire brushed it just enough to remove the loose rust. I then washed it with mineral spirts and then soap and water. Used Rustoleum rusty metal primer and top coated it with same brand Regal red. I store it inside the barn and it has help up well for the last 20 or so years. Could use a fresh coat of paint to make it pretty again ..... ..will have to add that to my TO-Do list

I'd sand the rusty spots to bare metal.. prime them.. then knock off all loose paint with a pad or brush.. then paint the sucker with a good 'farm' grade paint.
