Good spark, got gas, won't start

My 2N wouldn't start, and I found weak and intermittant spark. I replaced the distributor bushings, and the breaker plate assembly, too. I set the breaker points to .015 inches with the points open. I have verified that the plug wires are properly connected. I now have good spark at all cylinders, and I am getting fuel to the carb, but the tractor will not start. It turns over fine, but the cylinders almost never fire, and when they do it's just one or two pops and then nothing. One more thing. The plugs are new and properly gapped, but there is a good amount of oil on each of them. Is there any chance I can be up and running by the weekend?

Do you have good fresh gas with no water in it ?

I would check the compression.

I did a compression check a few weeks ago. At that time, compression readings were 85-86-75-85 dry, all around 90+ wet. Plugs 2 and 3 had more oil than 1 and 4. I know this means I have worn rings, but I am hoping to put off the ring job until next winter. I did notice more oil on all plugs today. Could it be that my rings leak so much oil into the cylinders that the plugs cannot ignite the gas??? After I did that last compression check, I had cleaned the plugs and then used the tractor to mow a pasture and grade a driveway, all in all about 4 hours of work. I had to nurse it home because it kept dying. Wouldn't start the next day, hasn't started since.

gas to the carb doesn't necessarily mean gas in the cylinders. try some starting fluid in the air intake and see if it runs for a few seconds.

your mileage may vary

I'm having a senior moment here, and can't think of the word for them, but you might try those do-dads that they use to shield the plug from crud in the cylinders. I have heard people on this board say they work pretty well, and they are not expensive. I suppose the local parts house would have them.
