Anyone know of a good 2006 tractor show schedule on the internet? We finally have our trailer queen ready to go so I would like to start planning for the spring/summer.

Also anyone else in the Chicago/northern Illinois area that shows regularly, I would like to hear from you about shows to go to and those to avoid.

Thanks.

Paul K.

The 2006 National show of the Ford/Fordson Collectors Association will be July 13-16 in Penfield, Illinois. This is the best Ford show nation wide..... .....

Though not on the internet I receive a fine calender every year named "Farm & Ranch Livings's Old Iron Calender". Not only does it have pictures of tractors and hit and miss engines but has a comprehensive listing by state and month of various shows.

Went to a nice show in Freeport this summer. Many hit and miss engines and they featured Minneapoils-Molines this year. Were a couple of 8Ns in various states of repair, but all running well.
There is also the American Thresherman's Show in Pinkneville, IL in August. Huge show with steamers, implements, hit and miss, and a featured tractor manufacturer that changes each year. All tractors are always welcome, though.

May I ask, what is a "hit and miss" engine?

Single cylinder (big) engine that fires until the flyball governor senses it's up to speed, which then stops the arm from tripping the magneto, so it goes thru enough revs without firing until it slows down enough to start firing again. When running, sound like bam, bam ,bam, click, click, click, bam, click etc. I still have the 5 horse Fairbanks Morse engine that used to run the Delco generator on the farm before the REA came through in 1948. I fire her up every so often -- just to hear it run again.

Dawn, I'm no expert on hit and miss. I do no they were made before 1900. They fire once and a very heavy flywheel carries them thru the next revolution and they fire again. You should visit an old tractor and antique show. Have a good eve.

Just for clarification many were made after 1900 also.

It seems that I have to that show quite a few years ago. If it was ---- very nice.
Is this the one where you are able to sit in the granstand and the tractors parade on the racetrack?

Try this link.
For Illinois I would check out the Sandwich Fair.
Lots of old tractors and "hit and miss" engines.

Most show guides are published in Feb & Mar, even then a lot of good shows are not finalized and miss the publication deadlines for inclusion.

We have one in Carlinville on Memorial day weekend - About an hour south of Springfield.

I'd be happy to see a new face, but it's a long way for you to travel.

There's a really nice show in August (?) called the "Will County Steam Power Show" near Kankakee. Don't have any info on it, but I've really liked it when I was there.
