Ok, all knowing wise people.. OT, but you will have some ideas.
Deal is, we have a steel carport shed (20wideX30long) that we park the cars under to protect from the Texas sun, Hail and what not. The driveway is just good ole Texas dirt with an old dumping of pea size gravel mixed it. It is fine. The area that we want to cover is the dirt area where wife parks her cars and my van. Dirt, with couple sets of ruts in it where the cars always sit.

Looking for some ideas here, not interested in concrete, and asphalt is not my first choice by any means. So, what have you seen used in an application like this? Back in Houston many years ago I saw a lot of driveways and parking lots with shingle cut off laid over them. The hot summer would make them pliable and the traffic on them smashed them flat. Ever seen that?

Got other ideas? I am open here,,

Thanks in advance.

Whatever you decide to use, think about what impact it may have on the resale value of the property and how easy it is to sell when the time comes.

I agree, crushed limestone (aka - crusher run) works like a charm. I spread it over my dirt floor in the barn, watered it, rolled it; and now it is like concrete and looks just great. Don't think you would be disappointed by the results and the price is quite reasonable. Git `er done!

I use crushed limestone (with the fines left in). Sets up like concrete after a while.

You might take a look at pulverized granite.

I've seen small parking lots paved with the tab cutouts from asphalt shingles. It makes a pretty fair driveway but is butt ugly. I wouldn't want it around my house and I don't live high on the hog.

Here in GA, you can now buy recycled concrete that has been run through some sort of giant crusher machine. It is pretty cheap compared to gravel and it sets up pretty flat. Plus you can spread some cement dust over it and then wet it down and roll it and you almost got concrete.
