I was driving my tractor today and I guess I pushed too hard on the clutch pedal because the arm on the shaft going into the transmission broke. Now I cannot operate the clutch. Does anyone know if this part is available and how to replace it. I have included a picture.

slightly OT - question about your paint color in reply to Alvin Roberts (MS), 11-05-2005 13:47:54
I noticed the spray cans of red Rustoleum in the background of your other pictures. I can't help but ask if you painted your tractor with the Sunrise red Rustoleum. I'm doing my red in the spring and am trying to decide what color to use.

Carl, here's what I did as far as painting mine...and I'm not done yet. There's probably better paint but I didn't want to spend a fortune. I wire wheeled and sanded everything I could possibly get too then cleaned it off. Then I applied two coats of spray on Rustoleum Stops Rust Rusty Metal Primer. I then BRUSHED on two coats of Rustoleum Stops Rust Sunrise Red in a can. Then I shot it with Rustoleum Stops Rust Sunrise Red in a spray can to make sure you couldn't see any brush strokes and make it all look smooth. It looks good to me but as far as how well it will all hold up I can't tell you...I haven't used the tractor yet.

Thanks for the information. I like that color and now I know what I'll be using in the spring. I think your idea of a brush coat followed by a spray coat is a good idea. I've got an entire Wagner loader frame to paint as well as the all the cast iron parts on the body. After the snow is all gone in the spring is when I can take the time to have the loader off, so it'll wait until then probably. I might do a few small parts as a test this fall.
Your paint job looks great!

You've got some serious wear on that clutch linkage. I've never seen replacement parts for the early 8N linkage. The later-version is available, though, from Dennis Carpenter & maybe the Barkleys. It's a pricey part as I recall.

Another pic showing the clutch pedal and how it contacts the broken piece to work the clutch.

Hi Alvin,

Don't panic, I bet Don Barkley or John Smith can fix you right up with that part and some good advice on how to R&R it.

Good luck with it.

Rick

Alvin,
What you appear to have broken is the arm on the clutch release shaft. There should be a 5/16" x 1-1/2" flat head pin holding it on. You may have to remove some of that pretty paint to see it though. Hope that helps.

regards,
TJ
