I used my 8n last night to cultivate all my trees and arena, worked it pretty hard. After finishing I got off to close a gate, when I turned around my 8n was blowing blue smoke!!! I got back on and drove it a little ways at higher RPMs and it kept it up. I shut it down and let it cool, thinking the worst I checked the oil and it was fine, but I also checked the radiator and that was low. It has never doen this since I have owned it and I am going on my 3 season. I am afraid I cracked the head or blew a gasket or cracked the block. I have never had to do anything to it other than change points, and spark plugs which I did about 2 weeks ago. Any help is appreciated!!Thanks

Wait til it cools completely down. Then check the oil. Look to see if there is any white milky looking stuff in the oil. Look to see if there is any oil in the radiator. You may have to fill the radiator back up and run it a few minutes to let it circulate. A cracked head, gasket, or block should surely show some signs somewhere.

Randy,

Did the engine start to skip? Usually the engine will skip if your getting water into the cylinder from a leaky head gasket or cracked head.

Do what Mike suggested. Check the oil. If it's milky, waters getting into your oil from somewhere. You might also take each plug out and look for signs of water.

A blown head gasket is not too big a deal. A cracked head is a little worse, a cracked block is bad.

Start checking at the simplest things first.

Were you on a hill side, by any chance? How much oil do you have in the oil bath air filter? It should be up just to the line. Is it possible that oil got into your carb. from that?
