Trying to figure out what went wrong. My NAA is a great running tractor and best friend we are building a house in southern Arizona. Clearing a spot for a shed last night and a terrible sound came from the right side axle. Quit this chore and headed for the parking spot, some more noise and no go with clutch out, that sick feeling that this aint right. Got movement in reverse and parked it. Thought I broke an axle, pulled the right and it was fine, left the same but some metal shavings at the inside spline. Tomorrow I dig into the differential. Any advice or tips on what I am getting into. Kind of in a time crunch because I am having shed delivered soon.

My worst fear is reality. Two days ago my only tractor problem was a slow leak on the right front tire, tonight the differential housing is kaput. My first clue was driving under no load getting ready to move dirt and heard a noise beneath my seat. A mystery but still had power and control then noise got worse under load and decided to park it. After looking inside the differential I have no idea how the tractor made it the last 300 feet. Pulling apart the gears, pieces of bearing, gear and cast plus a piece of flat stock ground into mush that may have been an attempted earlier fix, no idea. Wife says forget, look for another tractor, she does not know how one gets attached to a tractor, you folks do. Any advice or opinion is welcome, thanks for the response from n-vrything and ZANE. Have never heard about this weak link in the NAA. .

Also check the differential side gears and spider gears. It is possible that the rivets that hold the ring gear to the carrier have sheared.

Hope it isn't the side thrust bearing on the pinion has burst through the differential housing. No good way to fix it! At least that I know of.

The weak link in the Jubilee/NAA rear differential is the pinion mount. It is prone to failure due to engineering faults. I have seen some repaired but the usual fix is a replacement rearend housing. The bad news is only the 53/54 model will fit. The worse news is the price once you find one. Pull the left trumpet first and you should see what went wrong. Good Luck

If the pinion mount is the weak link it would seem that bearing wear would be the cause. Is that a correct assumption or am I missing something?

TIA
